Meet the Team
Katie Laux, LCMHC
Owner & Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
I’ve been practicing as a therapist for over 10 years, after earning my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Plymouth State University. My journey as a mental health professional began through my own process of growth—which I believe is lifelong. Along this journey, I’ve learned how much self-suffering we humans create through our thoughts, perspectives, and beliefs. If we are creating much of our suffering, it also stands true that we have the power to create our healing.

Before starting my private practice, I gained experience working in a variety of settings, including private group practices, intensive outpatient programs, and transitional living programs. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to provide individual therapy, couples therapy, and lead psychoeducational groups. One belief has remained central throughout my work: choice is one of the most powerful tools we have in shaping our lives. My goal is to support clients in reconnecting with their own sense of choice, even in the most challenging circumstances.

My therapeutic style is warm, intuitive, and gently direct. I am interactive in sessions, working alongside you to explore your thoughts and feelings with honesty and openness. I ask thought-provoking questions to help you get to know yourself more deeply, and I gently challenge long-standing beliefs that may no longer serve you. I strive to help you be honest with yourself, fostering self-awareness and growth. I believe that happiness and fulfillment are gifts of life that come from our efforts to approach ourselves and others with courage, honesty, and compassion. As a therapist, I aim to help clients embody these skills as they work toward their goals.

The treatment I provide is primarily informed by Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—replacing unhelpful thinking patterns or emotional responses with those that are more desirable and adaptive; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)—embracing thoughts and feelings mindfully rather than fighting or avoiding them; and Psychodynamic approaches to explore underlying patterns and emotional experiences. When helpful, I also offer practical skills and homework to support growth outside of sessions.

This is Jenny. I adopted her from a local animal shelter in the Fall of 2024. She is a senior pup but still quite spry. Her DNA results show that she is a mix of Dachshund, Miniature Schnauzer, and Chihuahua (among other breeds). She goes everywhere with me and has become accustomed to sitting in therapy.
